My Neighbor Alice has become a widely popular metaverse game that operates on blockchain technology since its release in early 2023. The creators of the game have ambitious plans to expand it into a virtual universe that offers much more than just the current game experience.
The game's business director, Antonio Palma, shared during his presentation at the recent GeckoCon 2024 Web3 gaming event, plans for upcoming changes and updates for users in the next year.
During a panel discussion, Palma was asked to share about upcoming projects from the My Neighbor Alice team. He mentioned that they are working on three new features, or "alphas", that are expected to be released by 2025.
To support the expansion and growth of the game, Palma mentioned that his team is currently developing a new technology that will allow My Neighbor Alice to be played on various devices, including mobile phones and tablets. While he did not provide many details about the technology, it is speculated to involve cloud-based streaming, given the game's current system requirements of a Windows 7 OS or higher, an Intel i5-6400/Ryzen 5 1600 or better processor, at least 8GB of RAM, 6GB of storage space, and an Nvidia or AMD GPU.
Palma mentioned that their game is likely one of the first to try out Web3 technology, which will enable them to make their game accessible on various devices, rather than being limited to Windows.
Another part of the plan involves simplifying the process of signing up and getting started, as it currently requires too much time and energy for players who only play occasionally.
Currently, Palma believes that there are seven steps required to access the game and begin playing, which includes tasks such as setting up a wallet and signing up. However, the goal is to streamline this process to just one click. Testing has been conducted on this complex technology, and there are hopes that it will be ready for launch next year.
These improvements will make the game easier for players who are not familiar with cryptocurrency. My Neighbor Alice aims to appeal to those who are new to crypto by introducing them to blockchain in a fun and engaging way, gradually familiarizing them with concepts like NFTs, wallets, and cryptocurrency.
The game can be viewed as a virtual world that is based on a metaverse, similar to games like Minecraft or Animal Crossing. Players can create and explore virtual environments, work together with others, and engage in activities like purchasing land, constructing buildings, collecting insects, farming, fishing, and beekeeping.
Within the game, various aspects such as land, avatars, buildings, plants, trees, flowers, and animals are all depicted through NFTs. The game offers users user-friendly tools to customize their virtual worlds and alter the terrain. Players have the option to purchase and sell these items through the game's marketplace using ALICE tokens, which can be obtained by finishing missions, working with others, and winning contests. After creating their virtual worlds, players can also generate income from them through different methods.
According to Palma, there are significant changes coming to the in-game economy. He didn't provide much detail but mentioned that they are experimenting with a new economy system. There may be an announcement about this and the ALICE token in the upcoming year.
Finally, My Neighbor Alice seems eager to use its position as a popular Web3 game to form partnerships with other industry players, potentially resulting in collaborations and integrations in the near future.
Palma mentioned that they have successfully formed a significant partnership with a major intellectual property in the industry. They have not made any official announcements because they are still developing the project and prefer to wait until they have a tangible product to share. The collaboration is currently in progress and will be revealed soon.
