Somnia has introduced its Developer Network (Devnet), which allows developers and users of Web3 to utilize its advanced blockchain technology. Somnia is marketed as an ideal platform for on-chain applications, particularly those aimed at a wide audience, such as games, decentralized finance (DeFi), social finance (SocialFi), and metaverse projects. The platform boasts high performance with a transaction speed of 400k TPS.
Somnia's Devnet has shown in internal tests that it can handle up to 400,000 transactions per second with transaction confirmation in less than a second. Despite heavy network traffic, transaction costs are still less than one cent.
Somnia's success is attributed to advancements in how tasks are carried out, the organization of data, connectivity, and agreement among users. The time it takes to read and write data on the platform's database ranges from 15 to 100 nanoseconds, resulting in a noticeable decrease in delays. Additionally, the improved networking capabilities allow for the transfer of 10 to 20 times more information between different parts of the system.
Additionally, complete compatibility with EVM enables developers to utilize tools and programming languages they are already familiar with to create decentralized applications that need to respond in real-time.
Additionally, Somnia enables immediate responses to events happening on the blockchain through Solidity, which creates opportunities for fully decentralized applications such as interactive games and live event platforms. This feature aims to improve user experience and expand the range of applications that can be successfully implemented on the blockchain.
Somnia is offering a $10 million grant to support developers in building a strong developer community. They are inviting developers to apply to be whitelisted and join the initial developer group. In addition to funding, the grant program will provide technical support and strategies for entering the market.
Initial partners in the infrastructure project include Ankr, who will offer Remote Procedure Call (RPC) services to improve the connectivity and dependability of the network.
Hemera's Social Scan feature will support the block explorer, enabling users to keep track of blockchain transactions. Furthermore, thirdweb will provide resources for creating decentralized applications that are compatible with the EVM, streamlining the development process.
The Devnet of Somnia will be available for public testing at specific times, giving users the opportunity to try out decentralized applications like a decentralized exchange (DEX), NFTs, and games.
By using this method, their goal is to collect important feedback and assess how well the platform functions in a real-world setting. Users have the option to obtain Somnia Test Tokens (STT) via a faucet on the platform in order to take part in the testing process.
For those curious about Somnia's technology, developers and users can visit their website to learn more about accessing Devnet, the grant program, and the whitelisting process. By introducing Devnet, Somnia hopes to increase the amount of data and features available on the blockchain, which could impact the development of decentralized applications moving forward.
